Amateur video I made, set to REM's Driver 8 (this is not the REM release, but my home made interpretation of the song, check out REM's video too, which is great.)

  • Haven't got a clue why I find this song so enchanting, I just do. I have never been to the US, but know that REM were fascinated by the rebuilding of the South after 1865 and myself being somewhat a student of history, maybe there-in lies my interest. Never-the-less beautiully written, great backing vocals by Mills and adore the subject matter. Typical wonderful REM.

  • Today, R.E.M. broke up. I recall riding to high school as a freshman on a clear, crisp fall morning in a car driven by some junior or senior who happened to pick me up for some forgotten reason. He was playing Driver 8 on the tape deck. Every time the song ended, he would rewind and play it again. So there I was, trying to be inconspicuous in the back corner of the car, with my lunch bag clutched tightly in hand, listening to this revelatory song and its booming guitar line, over and over again.

  • @achtsieben87 Get Firefox, then the adblock Plus plug-in then, well no f**** ads

  • Has anyone noticed that YouTube is being slowly f***** up by ads?

  • REM Rocks..nuff said

  • On this shift too long-take a break. Not yet anyway. It has been such a long trip but maybe the end is in sight.

  • True musical Americana.

  • REM's legacy will live on through us, their committed, very hip and wonderfully enlightened fans. I still get a kick out of turning people on to their amazing artistry (musically and visually). Their music is timeless. Bravo REM !

  • REM reached their destination. a way to shield away the heat ,a way to put myself my children to sleep, thank you REM

  • R.E.M. might have called it a day, but may their legacy live on forever in brilliant classics like this one.

  • NIce! I'd never heard the song before. Thank you!
