@thewheeliekid So in terms of static and dynamic balancing it must be like a straight 8, I.e. 8 crank pins, set into 4 pairs thus the two end pins rise and fall together (1 and 8), but surely a balance shaft is required to account for the two V's being out of synchronisation.

I.e. 1 and 8 are the same, opposed by 2 and 7 at 180 degrees out. The rest appear to be at 90 degrees to those already mentioned for engine smoothness?
