John McCain: Actions Speak Louder than Words

Many Americans, particularly Catholic Americans, are fed up with leaders who use the "pro-life" label to score political points without delivering real results. "Pro-life" is more than just a campaign slogan. Its a broad and deep call to defend human life at all stages, and especially to implement social and economic assistance for women and families.

In March 2009, Obama issued an executive order that opened the door to federal funding of research that requires the killing of human embryos, reversing President Bushs 2001 order that blocked federal funding of embryo-killing research.

On his third day in office,Obama nullified the pro-life Mexico City Policy. By this action,HE made organizations that perform&promote abortion as a method of family planning eligible for U.S. foreign aid funds. In March 2009, the Obama Administration released $50 million to the United Nations Population Fund an agency that had received no U.S. funds under the Bush Administration because of its involvement in Chinas population-control program which relies heavily upon coerced abortions.

Currently $461 million is allocated to these programs.Obamas order does not affect the amount of money allocated to the programs;it only affects which organizations are eligible for the funds.

Under Obamas order, funds will be diverted away from organizations that do not promote abortion,&given to groups that promote abortion as a method of birth control.Obama has said he would support policies to reduce abortion but by signing this order, he is effectively guaranteeing more abortions.

Three days after taking office, Obama signed an order allowing funds in the U.S. population assistance program to go to organizations that perform&promote abortion as a method of birth control,including lobbying to remove pro-life laws overseas.

Prior to Obamas order,a pro-life policy had been in place stipulating that funds in the U.S. population assistance programs go only to overseas organizations that pledge not to perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning.
