@PaulFosterCane - That's not quite it. The film is Bunuel's critique of ethnographic films, and contains his subversive brand of humour. Quite what's real & not real we'll never know. But I'm willing to bet that 3 men and 11 donkeys weren't stung to death by honey bees!
Basically, the narration is deliberately not accurate, and coupled with the inappropriate music is meant to undermine the film. But the footage was shot by them.
