Brooklyn grooves meet South American folk dances in the music of Chicha Libre. This group of armchair travelers is the house band at the Brooklyn club Barbes, now celebrating its 10th birthday with a new record called Canibalismo. The band invades Manhattan to play live in our studio.

Fusion you say? Claro que es fusión; pero la fusión la hicieron los grupos tropicales y chicheros peruanos en los 70's y 80's (Los Mirlos, Los Destellos, Los Diablos Rojos, etc.)... Grandes los gringos chicheros estos jajajajaja. Abrazo.

Hey, when next in Brooklyn on a Monday night check them out at Barbes on 9th St. and 6th Avenue in Park Slope. Walk right in, past the bar (of course you can stop there for a beverage) and into the back room wherein you can hear some of the best bands you'd ever wanna hear playing Balkan, Mexican, traditional American musics of all stripes and vintages, African, opera...and of course Cumbia! That's club co-owner Olivier Conan on the little South American stringed instrument in the video.
