I'm guessing the mother abandoned the poor bear cause the melting of the ice was not only destroying the habitat but reducing the FOOD SOURCE! ( Did your light bulb's explode yet)?

yes, obviously that's the case because nobody from the human race abandons their babies in a dumpster on prom night..
and gerbils don't eat their young either.. it's a shiny shiny pretty world were everyone acts nice and doesn't abandon their young for no reason =)
