Many burglaries in London are simple 'kick in' attacks that take place in the mid to late afternoon.
It's an interesting side-fact that the traditional late night/early morning burglary is becoming more and more unusual, certainly when it come to the burglaries that take place in flats or apartments in London.
Apartments in London are targeted specifically as the criminals can be reasonably certain that the occupants are younger people who are far more likely to be out at work during the day. This is epically true in the parts of London where property prices are higher; it's a simple conclusion to come to, if someone can afford an expensive flat they are probably out working like a dog during the day to pay for it.
In fact, modern conveniences like an audio phone entry system actually make it easier for the criminal to buzz each flat and check if anyone is home in any of the apartments.
The communal or shared door is normally poorly secured and easily defeated; the burglars then proceed to kick down each apartment door. Former single-occupancy houses now converted into flats are the primary target for this type of burglary but we have started to see a significant number taking place in larger purpose-built blocks. Sadly, even the presence of a doorman or concierge doesn't seem to deter some of these burglars. In some cases a neighbour has even been home in one of the flats but the burglars didn't seem to care a jot. The presumption here is that the criminals are as aware as anyone else that the over-worked and over-stretched police service is unlikely to arrive quickly.
Using brute force (sometimes far less that you would imagine) the burglar will simply kick at your door until the frame fails, splits or shatters. The London Bar is the first thing you should be thinking about in terms defence against door and frame failure.
However, the determined burglar, having failed to gain entry by concentrating on the lock side of the door, will turn his attention to the hinge side; which is equally, if not more, vulnerable. As such, the London Bar is best fitted in tandem with the Birmingham Bar.
Having fully protected both sides of your door frame, continued forced attack often leads to failure of the door itself. For this reason we recommend the installation of at least one Deadlock Reinforcer.
