Your not supposed to do it like that , always have some secateurs with you in the desert , and a rock if you want to to knock it off , and just pull the last spines out , im not sure if this is the correct way ?
they have barbed spines that attach themselves into the skin..
And I didn't see the pads enough to see what type it was, true jumping cholla is really the Cylindropuntia fulgida but there is also teddy bear cholla aka Cylindropuntia bigelovii

yep. those things hurt. a lot. they have histamine activating chemicals so they itch when u pull em out.
