On Sunday, April 3rd, the Chinese police illegally detained Ai Weiwei at the Beijing airport. More than 48 hours later, no one has heard from Ai Weiwei, not even his wife or his eight assistants. He is still missing and his phone has been turned off. The police also raided his Beijing studio that same day and confiscated hundreds of his personal objects including computers, hard drives, CDs and notebooks.
This is not the first time the Chinese police have been inhumane to Aiweiwei. Two years ago in Chengdu, a cop beat him so hard on the head, he later suffered internal bleeding and had to undergo emergency brain surgery in Germany. And last fall, he was put under house arrest in Beijing to prevent him from traveling to Shanghai. Then in January of this year, Ai Weiwei's multi-million dollar brand new studio was completely demolished by the Chinese government right in front of his eyes.
Not only is Aiweiwei one of the most famous Chinese artists in the world, but he is also an inspiring and compassionate human rights activist who is a nominee for Time Magazine's List of most influential people of 2011. He is, undoubtedly, one of the most prominent Chinese heroes of our generation.
In 1989, Aiweiwei went on a hunger strike to support the student demonstrators in Tiananmen Square which is why today on April 5th, I, Jimmy Chen, have decided to echo his hunger strike. In the name of freedom and universal human rights, I vow not to consume any food until the Chinese government releases Aiweiwei. I urge you to stand in solidarity with me, Access Now, the UK, Germany, France and the United States to call for his release by signing the petition below and upload your own hunger strike video.

Good luck! I've signed the petition. Have a doctor monitor your health during your hunger strike. Mia Farrow lasted 9 days when she was bringing awareness to Darfur. Please ensure that you don't cause permanent damage to your cardiovascular system. Do what you can.
