Isn't it that his recordings of Gaspard de la Nuit are mistakened as Ravel's recording? For me, Casadesus played the piece just like as if Ravel himself would've played it (Though I heard Ravel was not a good pianist. I'm not quite sure if this is true.).

may be casadesus was not so brillant as famous pianists today, but he had been a very honest interpreter who was not so much interested in making"special effects". In my opinion he belongs in a row to backhaus, kempff, fischer, solomon and I could not miss one of them.

for certain his only interest is producing the most authentic copy of the piece. His is more like a tone poem than a pianistic tour de force. I like Perlemuters Argerichs also, but this is more direct.
