This is Venza. She is a guide dog in training. She is a yellow lab from B.C. Guide Dog Services. My family and I are her puppy raisers. We will raise her until she is about 14 months old when she will go into more intensive training. When she goes up she will either be a guide dog for the blind or an autism support dog and help a child with autism. Whatever she does she will end up helping someone in need.
There are guide dog organizations all over the world. They help each other by sharing puppies and dogs. Venza's dad is Glen and her mom is Gretchen. Gretchen flew all the way from New York to have her babies. Venza and her littermates was born on December 8th, 2010. There were eleven pups and that's a lot! Gretel, Wellsie, Brooks, Mason, Lloyd, Walter, Kushner, Nikko, Mojo , Butchart and VENZA.
We got Venza when she was seven weeks old and we started training her right away. There are so many things we will need to teach her but we started with these things: ringing a bell to go to the bathroom, travelling calmly in the car, eating after we blow a whistle and the one thing she really needs help with is her nipping problem. So if you see her at school watch out she nips a lot.
It takes a lot a work and a lot of money to raise a guide dog. It costs about $40,000 to train a guide dog but it only cost a blind person $1. So donations are important.
Venza will be around the school a lot for the next year so come and see her but don't forget to ask if it's o.k. to pet her because she's on duty.
that was so cute.
