Multibody Sheet Metal Parts and Mirror Sheet Metal Parts

SolidWorks multibody part functionality has been extended to sheet metal to allow you to create complex sheet metal designs. Multibody sheet metal parts can consist of multiple sheet metal parts or a combination of sheet metal and weldment parts. The Mirror Part command now supports sheet metal.

Edge Flange Merge

You can merge two parallel bodies of the same thickness by inserting an edge flange between them. This enhancement simplifies and speeds up the creation of sheet metal geometry.

Closed Corner Enhancement

You can now use the existing Closed Corner command with a greater variety of sheet metal parts. You can use the Closed Corner command to add material between sheet metal features: when there is a cut across flanges; with large radius bends; when the part is created using Insert Bends or Convert to Sheet Metal; with faces that are part of a larger corner.

Sheet Metal Export to DXF/DWG Enhancements

The new DXF/DWG PropertyManager exports sheet metal to .dxf or .dwg files. A preview shows what your are exporting and lets you remove unwanted entities such as holes, cutouts and bend lines. The scale is 1:1 by default. Also automatically cleans up overlapping entities so a cleaner file is delivered to manufacturing.

Improved Hem Functionality

When you add a hem to a sheet metal part edge, you can now edit the hem profile to control the length. You can also add hems to selected non-linear edges.

Flat Pattern Enhancements

Graphical highlighting of self-intersecting flat patterns makes it easier to recognize areas that need improvement for manufacturing. You can also turn off the Normal cut option. This minimizes the weldment gap for manufacturing of rolled sheet metal parts with cut extrudes and produces a flat pattern with different outlines for the inner and outer faces of the cut.
