First demonstration of SARTRE vehicle platooning.

Platooning may be the new way of travelling on motorways in as little as ten years time -- and the EU-financed SARTRE project has carried out the first successful demonstration of its technology at the Volvo Proving Ground close to Gothenburg, Sweden.

  • I love it when people write stuff like: "Hey, great, but everyone will crash when someone needs to break". Just like no one in a million dollar project involving really smart engineers would have considered that issue. The fact that you are uninformed and have no idea how to solve a problem does not automatically make it impossible to solve...

  • @elxverde Guess it will lead to free deer roast that night.

  • Great idea but you should be able to turn the system of so you can drive the car yourself.

Because what happens if you need to drive over a road full of ice or snow? or over a road with little holes etc.

Believe me, you can't compare the behavior of a 10t truck with a small car.

The truck will almost not react on a little hole in the road, but a car will do.

And the limits of a truck on a road full of ice and snow are different to these of a small car.

    Though it's a great concept! :)

  • Near future. Imagine that a police robot-car stops civic robot-car for infringement of traffic regulations.

Test for the presence of viruses: "Please follow exactly as the crow flies on two wheels" LOL

  • @jimmynew100 an automated car can react to accidents/crashes much faster than a human can. That's why it should be possible to drive much closer to the car i front. A computer won't have to look at tail lights to realize the car in front has slowed down. It'll know instantly thanks to wireless communication and its sensors.

  • I don't trust a computer any further than I can throw it.

  • you have to pick the car in front real carefully, no drunk ppl required;))

  • Great, so you'll be expected to work while you go to work now and answer emails, phone calls...

(I know many of you douchebags already do that. Thanks. Hope you crash without taking anybody with you, BTW.)

  • What happens when someone cuts between the vehicles?

  • @elxverde

    the dee dies !!

  • When i first heard of intelligent cruise cruise control i had the same idea as the people in the video, but everyone laughed at me. Ha in their faces, who's the idiot know.
