La Cañada High School Faculty Spartans vs. the Celebrity Hollywood Knights

Very bizarre finish to the La Cañada High School Faculty Spartans Vs. the Hollywood Knights Celebrities fundraiser basketball game, once again at the LCHS "Sports Palace" (north gym). Score tied at 70 and the Knights at the free-throw line, 8.6 seconds remaining....celebrity Arlen Escarpeta misses the shot...Texas 410 is then fouled and makes one out of two free-throws to put the Knights ahead 71-70 with 6.5 seconds remaining. The Spartan Faculty is slammed down on a return layup, but get the ball out of bounds with less than 5 seconds in the game. Math teacher Morgan Savage gets the ball inbounds, does an amazing reverse-twist layup...and sinks it! Spartans lead 72-71. The Knights try a full-court toss with no time showing on the clock.

But, and this is where it gets bizarre, it was determined that there was still time left in the game. So the officials put 2.8 seconds back on the clock, allowing the Knights an inbound pass. But the whistle blew the play dead when the clock did not start after the ball was passed to the Knights. 2.8 seconds was put back on the clock as the Knights had another chance to win with an inbound pass. They pass the ball inbounds, get it to half-court and immediately call a timeout as the clock keeps winding down. Technically the clock shows .9 seconds remaining as the timeout was called, but the officials put up 1.6 seconds allowing for a final inbound pass by the Knights. Just as the clock runs out, a miracle sideline shot from Arlen Escarpeta goes in....but time had expired! Spartan Faculty wins 72-71! Unreal finish ONCE AGAIN at the Spartan Palace!




Note: After playing an amazing first half, teacher Sean Mispagel suffered a leg injury and had to leave the game for medical treatment. Our thoughts are with him.
