On Wednesday, July 25, 2012, Sen. Jerry Moran spoke on the Senate Floor to voice his concern about a push from the US Department of Agriculture to discourage its employees from consuming meat and dairy products.

Seriously? What's he so scared of? Meatless Mondays are a voluntary 1 day a week

Does he realize that eating vegetables is promoting agriculture AND it's also better the economy? When was the last time he checked the numbers as to how much stress over consumption of meat is putting in our society? How many people are in debt to medical bills, drugs, work days lost due to illness, death, etc? I guess in his world cancer, obesity, diabetes and heart disease are better for us + our economy!!!?

Wake up and smell the coffee. Red meat is harmful for humans. Kansas needs to begin to explore other agriculture besides producing beef. (BQ sauce is also REALLY good on tofu, potatoes and tempeh) Don't be so narrow-minded.  Cooks can do amazing things that are also HEALTHY!

The agenda promoted in the newsletter citing the UN and the green initiative didn't even bother to change the talking points by converting the metric measurements to the US system. Sen Moran's comments were right-on target and I look forward to seeing more vinettes like this on issues Kansans care about!

There's a huge conflict of interest with the USDA.On one hand it's supposed to protect the health of citizens & on the other it's supposed to promote industries - Even those who may not produce the best sources of nutrition. No one can serve 2 masters - It's always the consumer/taxpayer who loses.

Besides-It's not like meatless means that other sectors of agriculture don't benefit.Ppl will eat alternative foods: nourishing plants-fruits, vegetables, nuts, & grains. It's animal ag that's worried.
