HP Lovecraft-influenced film about an old man describing his cat. But is it really just a cat? This is the fifth Lovecraftian movie by director Aaron Vanek.

  • The shot composition through this entire film is really excellent. Very atmospheric work (I particularly like the shot at 4:54). Stylistically it reminded me of The Wicker Man. I'd love to see you head a Lovecraft production. I love the early Stuart Gordon films on a nostalgic cult charm kind of level, but it'd be great to see a filmmaker with some elegance and artistic integrity tackle his work. It certainly deserves it.

  • @sunnybrand

    Wow, thanks!

I've made other Lovecraft short films (this is my fifth), and I'll be running the HP Lovecraft Film Festival now in Los Angeles (I was one of the first to help start the Portland one, fifteen years ago). But a Lovecraft feature would be fun. I have a script for "Colour Out of Space" that is pretty cool, but I have no money to make it. Maybe someday.

  • Strange accent.. what is it?

    I like this short!

  • The accent is supposed to be New England (I think), but also slurred a bit as if he had a stroke.

Finally, I warped the sound in post to represent the old film.

    Glad you like it, cheers

  • I'm a little confused by the ending. Does that mean he let Tutu in?

Anyway, 10/10. You hit that Lovecraftian horror right on the nose.

  • Does Tutu even exist? Is HE Tutu? Is Tutu inside all of us, waiting to escape?

    I made it, and I don't even know. ;-)

  • Genuinely interesting. A look into the mind of someone who would see the world destroyed.

  • Very interesting, very atmospheric - Lovecraft on film done right for a change!

I thought one or two moments were a little hammy, but that's just me.

    An overall fantastic little short!

  • Crafted with love.

  • Bravo! What I just saw is exactly the way I perceive the Lovecraft horror in my mind and I never thought anyone could express it so well.If only big studio budgets were given to such talents...Amazing work!

  • This is excellent! I love how the end leaves you wondering what exactly Tutu really is, and a part of you isn't sure you want to know. This is an example of truly great atmospheric horror. Well done!

  • @pragzter | it sounds old american and german/austrian, it shifts between them as if... as if... *shudders*

  • I wonder what Tutu is? XD I wanna fail my sanity roll! Bwahahahahaaa!!!! XD
