Harvesting corn and soybeans near Sleepy Eye Minnesota, November 2009 and taking the crop to market. These scenes are typical of life in the Corn Belt. In spite of near-drought conditions this summer and heavy rains in October, these farmers were still getting corn yields in excess of 175 bu./acre

  • Great job, I loved the music. This reminds me of the beauty of farming. Thanks!

  • @Archivesman1 Once, the harvest was an occasion for community-wide celebration because a good one meant that no one went hungry during the winter. Now that so few people actually farm, there aren't so many that understand what that joy must feel like. I sure am glad Beethoven wrote his tribute to the joy of the harvest so that even we city-slickers can have a little feeling for what once was probably the most important occasion of the year.

  • I've seen dozens of harvesting videos and your has the most original soundtrack, how refreshing, thanks.

  • @pentax2 I am glad you liked my choice of sound. It is from the final movement of Beethoven's 6th symphony (the Pastoral) and is about the celebration of the harvest. I spent part of my childhood a few miles from where this video was shot. These are amazing people who grow our food. And in my humble opinion, "my" people deserve a Beethoven soundtrack! And I bet Beethoven would agree.

  • I'm just north of sleepy eye, north side of the mn river. we haul all of our corn to christensen farms. neat video

  • The video of the field work was shot about 8 miles north of Comfrey MN--the grain elevators are in Sleepy Eye itself.

    Glad you enjoyed the video.

  • @waagii

I am pretty sure Beethoven could have figured out the machinery pretty easily--he WAS a genius after all. Greetings back to Austria (thanks for Beethoven!).
