@Mischeaux61 he was shot in the hand in 1961 and they had to re attach the ring finger of his left hand, which is why he doesnt play guitar. he then went thru extensive therapy to build up the use of his left hand, which enabled his incredible piano playing. U can read all about it in his autobiography pages 105-108.
