The Brazilian state of Minas Gerais harbors large and intact patches of Brazils endangered Atlantic Forest, as well as a wide variety of plant and animal species—some of them found nowhere else in the world. The Nature Conservancys campaign to restore one billion native trees to the Atlantic Forest cannot succeed without the participation and commitment of many partners, from government agencies to local NGOs to local landowners. In the state of Minas Gerais, watch these partners working together to restore the Atlantic Forest on 2,400 acres.
Here's an idea to reduce the cost per tree.
Plant one tree of each type every 100m. Then every 2-3 years transplant the small trees that are growing under the big tree a bit further, like 30m further. It would cost almost nothing given that from what I understand these people are volunteers.
You would just have to grow in the order of 10% of the trees in greenhouse which is what costs money.
