I'm a jays fan but I miss the old Yankees Stadium :(

Those 4 buildings at 0:47 is where the Polo Grounds stood until 1964.

@tealmarlin I don't really like going to the new stadium. That feeling is gone. Nothing like the old stadium.

What was wrong with their old stadium? Why waste money?

Wow, man...I do still miss it. But lately, and I don't really know why since I am a Bombers fan, but, right about now, I'm beginning to miss Shea a little bit more. Now, I did grow up a "Metropolitan" on Madison Street (BK!) back in the 80's, but that's not really the point. Flying by on that crazy-ass Grand Central and still not seeing it...I don't know, it's just different. You know, I still expect to see that big blue dump. :D
0:50--site of the Yanks second NYC home: Polo Grounds.

I am not really a Yankee fan, but I always wonder why they didn't leave the old Yankee stadium up. I mean with the history it has, why not leave it up as a national monument.

I went to NY in July 2008 just to see the famous Yankee Stadium. They beat the Red Sox that evening 2 to 1. It is one of my favorite memories. To think I stood in a place where so many Greats have played. It was very humbling.

Should of been a landmark

miss the old staduim glad I gotta chance to see a game there back in 2005.I don't even why they even get rid of old yankee staduim for a new one. thats like getting rid of fenway or wrigley that staduim had so much character
Yes, That's very true. Can you imagine?? Kids from Highbridge were minutes away from two major league baseball teams. Games at the Polo grounds were cheaper...good for kids. I remember shaking
hands with Casey Stengel at the end of a game. He'd talk to anyone that would listen. I think it was 1962.

Indeed there was a little league field with two diamonds to the immediate west of the old stadium. I could see how it would seem that my video looked like those fields being revamped. I have to admit, when I got up to the subway platform and saw this view, I thought I was on an LSD trip. it was like musical ball fields, very unnerving. Thanks for the comment noting the correction. A tidbit..we often played both LL fields as one field. We then had a field bigger than than the stadium itself!

I'm thinking you may have been to the Stadium as a fan, but your 180 degrees off on the neighborhood layout.
Your description of the court house being "beyond field right" is correct if you were seated generally behind home plate, that means looking east. Understand I was standing on the subway platform looking west. The court house was behind me.
I know this is a startling view. But I'm on the train platform, the new stadium in on the right, so where would the old stadium be? Google map it.

It sure is the old site. I grew up on the street behind the new stadium. Waited for the #4 train to high school at this very spot. I do realize it hurts to see the old stadium gone. At least the kids get to play on the very spot the Yankees played on.
