  • I was waiting for more clips of this performance. Wasn't Sill behind this? Was it at NYCO? Ah, the young Blake!

  • Yes , she was. Beverly Sills was the General Director. NYCO.

  • English language is not made for Rossini's operas !! it's so funny !! but I prefered the originals versions in italian!!!

Why the NYCO did it ?

  • Wow, I never heard this in English before. It sounds nice.

Haha. Alan Titus is a hoot, and a scene-stealer. Young Blake sounds great.

  • Super Schnell!

  • This is before the days of supertitles--City Opera still did quite a few operas in translation, especially the comedies. Blake was fantastic (and somewhat underrated), Alan Titus of course was a superb performer and (despite how he looks here), an extraordinarily handsome man. The wonderful Rolandi is Clorinda. Do I remember incorrectly? Isn't that Rosemarie Freni as Tisbe? Great clip.

  • It sounds odd in English. It seems something is missing but I can't say what it is.

  • It used to be that operas were performed in the language of the country they were performed in. I love hearing operas in Italian, but they might be more popular if more people understood them.

  • Five stars! thanks dear lasultanica!
