Tinsley Towers Demolition - View from the North

Demolition of Sheffield's iconic Tinsley Towers, situated just 9 meters away from a viaduct of the M1 motorway at it's cloest point - near to Meadowhall shopping centre (where huge crowds gathered to watch).

You can hear the cheering and the astonishment as the two big blasts take out first the South tower, then the North tower - not all went to plan though as a part of the North tower remained (which later fell down by itself).

I'm not so sure about the 'fun' aspect. It was certainly something unique and exciting, but not exactly 'fun' in the traditional sense.

The hole left on the Sheffield skyline by the loss of these two old friends is heartbreaking.

Hmmm. A shame, and despie the new baby and the fact I live 50 miles away, I'm sort of hating myself for not having made it down to watch.

I hope someone collected all the rubble so we can sneakily start re-building them?

I guess it's the excitement of it - many people had been waiting to watch it for several hours!

I loved the cheering roar coming from all around when they' come down, particularly from the direction of Meadowhall car-park, it was like listening to a goal being scored in a giant open-air football match!
