It's only laggy when you come across script city (For example, a place with dozens of scripts)or a full sim, where there's dozens of people. Plus you can reduce lag by:
Ctrl + Alt + D >> Client Menu >> Rendering >> Types >> and then turn off some of the options, if it is REAL laggy turn off simple. That'll remove nearly everything there is on your screen.
