That becomes a big chicken-or-egg question: are the police 'quick to gas' as you say (which I call BS on, cops lose their job over almost any complaint) because people riot, or do people riot because cops are big meanies?
The reason the tea partiers were treated well by the police is because they treated the police well. They treated the environment well, they treated others well. They're good citizens. Left-wing protesters are the exact opposite.
