I fully agree with you that the application of force in such a situation can exacerbate the problem.
However you are wrong, in neonates the dam regularly manipulates the offspring without any resistance. OUr selective pressure to produce neotony in dogs may be the reason why its so easy to manipulate dogs without any problem.
You can reward a dog with food - and it is possible to change their perception through positive association. The science falsifies your claims.
