  • I doubt that cell animation will go away... They said that 3D was the future over ten years ago, yet people are still watching cell animated shows on TV. There's still a market for cell animation.

  • My problem with traditional animation, even though I prefer it and it's the best way to make cartoon films, is that no one can do it today without being called a Disney rip-off. If one company makes a traditionally hand drawn animated film, everyone will look at it and say it's ripping off Disney. That's why many people overlooked Anastasia as a Disney rip-off, even though it has nothing to do with the Disney style. I think it will live on, but only Disney will be "allowed" to do it. Shame.

  • @philiptwood That and CGI is getting old pretty quickly, mostly because of the live-action movies with poorly conceived scripts and even worse CGI characters.

  • dont worry don there is a happy comprimise of hand drawn animation and animation done on the computer. its called a graphics tablet. you that you can hand draw the pictures straight on the the monitor and not waste paper

  • We know that Mr. Bluth work with Disney and made art for Disney movies. After that try start His own productions. I like Land Before Time.

  • Great vid. This helps me understand why my drawings usually turn out lifeless. A great struggle, let me tell you. Inspiring video, yes :).

  • @philiptwood Actually unless you're watching Boomerang then 2D animation on TV today has nothing to do with cels. :\

  • I love Don Bluth!! You're so right about caricaturing reality. A lot of people don't get it. Like why would I want to spend hours and hours to copy every detail?

  • This video needs a better title~!

  • @Jshaw71 it's the other way around. cgi is much easier once you know its programmes. Programmers already put in the codes for you, and you don't need to recreate every frame, or you don't need time expensive builds of animatronics and analog stuff. Too bad though. Certain 'moods' are ruined by the cgi realism, and the art of design and stylization to set up a mood get lost. However some cgi artists are working hard getting the 'oomph', handdrawn is still the ultimate core and will be forever.

  • hi again don its me BLAKE A. ROTEN and I just subscribed you for the 1st time and I don,t exactly know how to upload my own videos on youtube but I do know how to send pictures of my art on gmail if you like to meet me there. so uh see you on gmail!

  • you,re right don! and without hand-drawn animation than maybe 2D and 3D animation would never be in balance or maybe CGI would never exist without 2D inspiration at all which is why I would like to make disneys first anime one day even if I do best at comic strips and story boarding even though people draw at hand-drawn story boards these days which is why I would like to meet you in person or maybe online one day or my name isn,t BLAKE A. ROTEN! so uh email me at gmail if you like too?
