I don't think it will work the same, but you could try right? You might want to try to find/make your brown sugar to the same consistency as white sugar, not sure if thats possible though.

The instructions say to stir until all the sugar is dissolved; about how long does that take?

Stir for about 30 seconds (I like using a whisk because it incorporates it better). After it is dissolved leave it alone and do not stir it or the sugar will crystallize. Enjoy!
