Jillian's POV

I didn't know what to do. I couldn't drive away because I would kill one of them with the way they were leaning against my car. I rolled down my window not even half way and said"Can I help you?" "Jillian, are you ok?" Joe asked. "Of course she is fine." Derek said probably trying to keep himself out of trouble. "Um, I'm fine I guess." I said. "I gotta get in there before I loose my job. I'll talk to you later." Derek said and walked away. "You're not ok." Joe said. "What would make you think that?" I asked him. "You acted so scared when you answered Derek's questions and Oh My God is that a bruise? What did he do to you?" Joe said walking to the passenger side of the car and getting in. "I.. um I fell. It's nothing." I said. "Something is wrong. What happened?" he asked. "Ok, I'll tell you, just please don't hit me." I said, uh oh, I just gave myself away! Now he knows he did something to me. "Jillian, why would I ever hi..He hit you didn't he? Oh I have had it!" Joe said. "I'm fine really. It's ok." I said and I now had tears in my eyes. "No you're not ok. Just admit it. Let me help you." he said. "Oh, so now you wanna help me? I can't deal with how your attiutude changes all the time. I want one Joe. That's it. I want my best friend back." I said and my tears started falling now. "I'm sorry. I don't want to get you upset. But your best friend has been here all along babe. I guess you just didn't see me." He said. I leaned over to him and rested my head on his chest. I haven't done this in a while. I felt protected again. "Why don't we start with the friends thing and work up to a date?" Joe suggested. "I'd like that." I said. "I've missed this you know. You may not have wanted to hear it a while ago but I was worried about you when you left. You truly are my best friend." he said which made me get the tears in my eyes back. "I have missed you too, but what happened, I don't know I just thought I could trust you. And don't get me wrong I want us to be friends but can I trust you to tell me everything. Because if I can't I don't know if I will be able to handle this. I'm sorry." I said. "You can trust me I promise. I'll tell you everything whether you want to hear it or not. I thought by now you would be able to tell that I wanted to be with you. I mean I haven't had a full nights sleep since you left. Sounds like a friend to me?" he said. "Yeah, I guess you're right." I said. "I always am." he said and laughed. Oh how I missed that laugh. It seems like it has been forever since I have heard it. And his smile. Perfect in every way. I guess I really did love him. And no matter what happens I think I will always love him in some way. But I wasn't going to tell him that yet I would probably just freak him out. "Same old Joe." I said and smiled for the first time in such a long time. "Now, can we please go home?" he asked. "Do best friends live with each other?" I asked. "We don't need to be like other best friends. And I think some other best friends of yours are worried and want to see you."He explained. "Ok, lets go." I said and started turning the key when Joe said "Why don't you let me drive. I think you need a break." So I got out of the car and started walking to the other side when I got a bad pain in my stomach where Derek had punched me last night. "What's wrong?" Joe yelled. "It's just my stomach. Derek, well he punched me in the stomach last night." I said. Joe had a worried look on his face and came closer to me and lifted up my shirt. His face gave him away. He was worried and when I looked down I could see why. My whole stomach was black and blue and there was a little dried blood from last night I guess. "I can't believe he did this to you. He could go to jail. Who would ever do this to you?" Joe said. "Joe, it's ok lets just go home." I said "Don't I need to get you to a hospital?" he asked. "No, I think a little ice will be just fine. And don't tell anyone about this. I don't need to get everyone worried. It's just a little bruise nothing serious." I said. "Um, ok. But if you get any worse, I'm telling someone. I don't care I can't loose you." he said and that made me smile that he cared so much. "Ok, but believe me I'm fine." I said. He shook his head and helped me into the car. I really didn't need help but I knew it would keep him happy if he helped me so I let him. He walked back over to the drivers side and got in. "Ok, now lets really go home." Joe said and we drove out of the parking lot. It felt good to be going somewhere I could call home and sitting next to the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I looked over at him, one hand on his lap the other on the wheel. And then I put my hand on top of his. He looked at me, smiled and said"What's this for?" "I just felt like it." I said and we stayed like that the rest of the ride home.
