Chimpanzees -- Our nearest relatives

Many people use to differ between humans and animals. But the truth is: We are animals. More exactly it must be stated: We belong to the Great apes. This is due to a common ancestor that we share with the chimpanzees. This ancestor evolved new characters, which remained in both the chimpanzees and the humans: e.g. a more human-like well developed facial expression, human-like fine motor skills of the hands, a social behavior, more complex and human-like than in other Great apes.
The chimpanzees consist of two species: the chimps (Pan troglodytes) and the bonobos (Pan paniscus). They are sisterspecies and together represent the group, which is named "chimpanzees". The chimpanzees are the recent sistergroup of the humans (Homo sapiens). All characters differing H. sapiens from other great Apes evolved step by step on the human stem line, beginning with the ancestor that we shared with the chimpanzees.

Mensch und Tier werden in der Bevölkerung häufig als sehr unterschiedlich wahrgenommen. Und doch sind wir nichts als Tiere: Wir gehören zu den Affen (Primaten), genaugenommen zu den Menschenaffen (Hominidae).
Innerhalb der Menschenaffen sind wir nächst verwandt mit den Schimpansen, die unsere Schwestergruppe bilden. Das bedeutet: Mensch und Schimpansen haben einen gemeinsamen Vorfahren.
Es ist zu beachten, dass zwei Schimpansenarten existieren. Gemeiner Schimpanse und Bonobo sind Schwesterarten. Gemeinsam bilden sie die Gruppe der Schimpansen.
Die gemeinsame Stammart von Schimpanse und Homo sapiens (es wird hier nur über rezent vorkommende Arten gesprochen) hat neue Merkmale entwickelt (Apomorphien), die bei Schimpansen und Mensch erhalten blieben. Beispiele hierfür sind: eher menschenartige Beweglichkeit des Gesichts, komplexe eher menschenartige Sozialstruktur, eher menschenartige Feinmotorik der Hände.
Die besonderen Merkmale des Menschen, die uns das Gefühl geben, deutlich vom Tierreich abgrenzbar zu sein, evolvierten Schritt für Schritt auf der Ahnenlinie des Homo sapiens, jedoch beginnend mit der gemeinsamen Stammart von Schimpanse und Mensch.

Since Charles Darwin's "Origin of species" in 1959 until today, scientists worked hard for an understanding of more and more mechanisms of the evolution of life. Successfully! This gave us a more and more wider intellectual horizon and enabled us, not only to understand, how all species and their environments are closely correlated with each other, but also to use this knowledge to create mechanisms and programs for the preservation of our biodiversity, which is also fundamentally important for the survive of our species.
The finding that our next relatives are the chimpanzees -additionally having fossils of our ancestors- helped us to reconstruct the stepwise evolution of all these characters differing us humans from all other species. But our origin is within the primates or Great apes. We are Great apes and therefore do not only control our environment or our biodiversity, we are part of it.
The awareness who we are and where we come from gives us a sense of responsibility for our own species and for all other species on earth. People being educated in science, evolution and epistemology need to be able to ask for arguments to have a fundament for intelligent, reasonable and productive discussions. The mentality asking for arguments enables self-assurance of individuals and productive success in a critical dealing with all these important cultural, political or ecological questions coming up in our societies.
Going back to an awareness-level of the Middle-Ages is destructive, because the one who beliefs in the existence of witches and aliens begins rapidly to seek them inside the neighbour's house. Fear before each other facilitated the instability of medieval communities. The inability of people in those times critically to search for clear arguments instead of "beliefs" made them easily controllable by despotisms. Creationism is such dangerous, because it makes people being easily controllable due to their lack of critical intelligence and scientific enlightenment!

AWESOME upload ~ THANKS! However, I truly do not believe that humans evolved from any primate whatsoever, & I also believe that in the next year or so, we'll all learn the real truth through our real ancestors, from various far away planets & universes. Yes! We too are essentially aliens aka ETs to planet Earth.

BTW I have a troop of about 30-40 moneys that visit my garden every other day or so. They are so cute, but can be very destructive & rather cheeky too ~ but not as destructive as MAN!!

Oh! We ALL loved Peter the Chimp dearly ~he was incredibly human like & I shall never forget his eyes & the way that he, like dolphins, whales, octopus etc almost stared through one. They are after all extremely telepathic.
