This is a follow-up to my first demo of Contra. The first indoor level was hacked in the same spirit as the first one, using a beta version of a Contra editor, Red Falcon...

The number of rooms is the same, but enemies and wall objects were hacked in various ways. Running guys shoot more bullets/grenades, jumping guys are a little less predictable, and wall objects need more hits. The Boss room was heavily modified, and the Boss Eye is a tough nut to crack...

  • contra has an alternate difficulty level, end the game one time and the next time it will be hardest

  • @ModelChronoForce That's right, there is a variable in RAM that counts the number of times you finished the game. So there is actually 4 different levels of difficulty. The bad point is that the feature is used only with the Running Men and the Red Cannon. As far as I know...

  • @Simboiss That's not true. It seems the game truly is an "arcade game". The difficulty just never seems to stop increasing upon each next play (possibly maxes at 99 play loops, which is 100% unlikely from any sane person).

  • @iniche Well, to be more precise, the variable in RAM that keeps track of the number of times you finish the game does go up at each completion, but the code itself never exploits more than 4 iterations. When computing the probability of a Running Man to appear, the variable is used to create the coefficient, but if it's over 3, the game still caps it at 3, no matter the real value...

  • BF3 and MW3 can suck contra's balls

  • you play good :)

  • @iniche this is very good, because original Contra is incredibly easy. And it's more interesting, when it harder. And no, this is not over the top. I play in this demo without infinite lives and I past this two levels. :)

  • @Simboiss What about the observation that the bosses and certain enemies definitely become more difficult to kill? They take much more hits to down each time.

  • @ModelChronoForce That's a common mistake. There's no "hard" mode. It just keeps getting more difficult each time you beat it and continue in the next run.

  • AWESOME! I think it's a little over the top, like maybe reduce the health of the enemies by 25% or so. Or provide an alternate difficulty level.
