"Putting it Together" is a musical revue showcasing the songs of Stephen Sondheim. All of the songs are extracted from their original context and worked into a new semi-storyline that revolves around an older couple facing their disillusions and marital troubles, a younger, less jaundiced couple, and a commentator.

"Putting It Together" was first performed in England in 1992 and then moved to Broadway in 1993 for a run that starred Julie Andrews. The cast recording audio CD is from the 1993 production.

In 1999, the show returned to Broadway, starring George Hearn, Carol Burnett, John Barrowman, Ruthie Henshall and Bronson Pinchot. Hearn received a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for his role.

These excerpts are taken from a taping of a live performance of the 1999 production, available on a highly recommended DVD. The DVD is region 1 only, so can be viewed on DVD players sold in the US/Canada or PC DVD players worldwide. No audio CD was produced using this cast.

UK viewers: if you're willing to watch the DVD on your PC, it is available for purchase at amazon.co.uk (and probably other sites) and you'll avoid international shipping charges. (Please let us know if that changes.)

  • I hated Forum. The music was my least favorite of Sondheim heh.

  • Ruthie is amazing!! shes a triple threat in the original sense, not in the LiLo sense! genuine talent!

  • @RaychelMoone can you upload buddy's blues please? :)

  • Can you pleeeeeaaaaaaaase upload "It's Hot Up Here" soon??

  • Why do you care why she sings the way she sings? She's amazing no matter what she does and how she sings. Obviously singing the way she sings has gotten her extremely far, so stop hatin...

  • This isn't that bad, but the original cast was so amazing!

  • pretty please can you put 'It's Hot Up Here' on youtube?? i was going to buy the dvd but im in the uk so dont think it will work :( thank you x

  • I love Ruthie Henshall, I do, but I always want her to sing like she sings "I Dreamed a Dream" and not like this....ergh. Oh Carol Burnett, John Barrowman, George Hearn, them I adore. :)

  • Why does Ruthie Henshall sing wth her jaw locked all the time. and flat on pitch... yikes...

  • Where did It's Hot Up Here and More go?
