** Hand painted in acrylic on 4ft x 2ft wood board **

This was a commission for a lovely inhabitant of the equally lovely 'thegoonies.org'.

Anyone using the phrase 'bone organ' for a cheap gag automatically gets 5 team-points deducted.

  • HOLY CRAP

    u r my new jesus

how long did it take to finish painting?

  • Thank you, my child :) I think it took around 4 1/2 hours, all in all.

  • One more dumb question please?

Where do you get the wood board and do you have to prime it first? Thanks again, everyone has different techniques and its interesting to learn new things. Cheers.

  • no problem!

you can pick up the wood board at any decent hardware store. I tend to go for wood composite (mdf, etc) as it seems to give a smoother finish. I prime the board with gesso, usually all it needs is a single coat and it dries very quickly, then I make the initial sketch - if it's something as detailed as this one I'll sometimes use a grid to make sure the proportions are just right, otherwise I'll sketch it freehand. Then I'll start painting in acrylic, big blocks of color first..

  • ..and then another layer with a little more detail, a last layer of finder detail and finally I'll pick out high and lowlights.

Any more questions, just ask - always a pleasure :)

  • Very cool painting,.

Do you have to use fixative on your pencil drawing underneath the painting or just paint right over it?

  • thankyou sir :)

I don't use fixative for the pencil sketch, I find If I paint straight over the pencil I can achieve some really nice blending effects as the lead smears.

  • ammmaazinnn! woww

  • holy god! that was brilliant!

  • Thanks so much. Do you have to build up the back of the board to make it thicker? Like with supports? Thanks again for your quick replies.
