Finally, Amitabh opened his mouth to answer all the critics. Amitabh was the front runner to win the National Award for his role in the film Black. But some people, including the jury member, Shyamli Banerjee, didn't really agree with this and took the matter to court. According to them, Anupam Kher should have been the actor to win the award for his role in Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara. But in the end, Amitabh was the one who bagged the award after 15 years.

When Amitabh was asked about this, he replied, "We actors can accept the award only if it is given to us. If they feel I shouldn't be getting the award, and if this is why she went to court, then the committee and the government have a better picture of it. If the court disagrees with them, and the committee thinks I should be getting the award, I accept it."
