Former Strikeforce heavyweight and now UFC heavyweight Shane Del Rosario talks about his upcoming career with the Ultimate Fighting Championships and a potential return to action in April of 2012. Rosario, a member of Team Oyama in Irvine, California, is the first American to win the WBC heavyweight championship (Kickboxing/MuayThai).
He fought his way through the regional circuit stringing wins together in King of the Cage and Elite XC's Showtime Extreme Elite Challenger series where he submitted Amedeo Viola with a triangle choke and went on to score multiple TKO victories over Analu Brash and Carl Seumanutafa. M-1 Challenge would pick him up after Elite XC folded and Rosario would travel internationally to Korea, Russia and Japan to score three more TKO victories. Lloyd Marshbanks, Maxim Grishin and Dool Hee Lee all fell victim to the former WBC heavyweight champion's punching power.
Strikeforce would be the next stepping stone for the young gun from Irvine, California. There he was able to pick-up a textbook omoplata victory over Brandon Cash, delivered punishing knees and punches to knockout Lolohea Mahe and finally saw a jump up in competition in his bout against Lavar Johnson. Rosario vs. Johnson was the last fight that Rosario has participated in since his accident earlier this year which sidelined the prospect for nearly a full year. In that bout Johnson came out with guns blazing and headhunting for the younger Rosario. Shane was able to weather the storm and dominated the fight when it was on the ground. From full mount, Shane secured the armbar victory with thirty seconds to go in the bout. Johnson tapped immediately.
The Team Oyama member has undergone physical therapy to rehabilitate his discs in his back that were damaged. He and his team expect to make their return to action and debut in the Octagon as soon as April 2012. Follow World of MMA on Twitter! @WORLDOFMMA
