The difference between a normal and psychopathic Mind

Broadcast 7th September 2011 on BBC2

What makes us good or evil? It's a simple but deeply unsettling question. One that scientists are now starting to answer. Horizon meets the researchers who have studied some of the most terrifying people behind bars - psychopathic killers. But there was a shock in store for one of these scientists, Professor Jim Fallon, when he discovered that he had the profile of a psychopath. And the reason he didn't turn out to be a killer holds important lessons for all of us. We meet the scientist who believes he has found the moral molecule and the man who is using this new understanding to rewrite our ideas of crime and punishment.

  • this makes sense

  • this is a bunch of bs.. they want you to think that chems are responsible for everything, and the goal is to fix these chemical problems at birth.. theyll make a population of perfect slaves if you fall for this shit.. perfect for their n.w.o

  • @andross637 I'm quite sure there are no similarities between Austism Spectrum Disorder and Anti-social Personality disorder, other than the fact that people with these disorders lack empathy. People with Asperger's do feel emotions, guilt/remorse. They just have difficulty showing it and understanding it. Psychopaths show absolutely no remorse. ASD is COMPLETELY different to Psychopathy.

  • and wouldn't a soldiers brain not be like that of a psychopath then? with the off-switch?

  • With it*

  • I know i have most characteristics of a psychopath, but only by being aware of that for the last decade have I been able to improve on that side of me. And simply having that drive to better myself and being self aware is proof and comfort for me that I will never let that side out as long as I have the drive to better myself. Never happened, and i hope it never will, but the instinct, that animal in my brain, is still there and I can't deny it. I learned how to make peace with it and work wit

  • The question, Jim, is not WHAT I am, but WHO. WHO is a choice. WHAT may be determined by genetics and chance.

  • All this does is confirm, again, that the individual is responsible for their actions.

Environment may be conducive, or not, to particular acts, but it still remains for the individual to decide what is and is not right to do. Wow.

  • Put politicians in that scanner, PLEASE!

  • I smell Steve Jobs.
