the diesel engine never needs a spark my friend even initially that's y its called a glow plug. All the glow plug does (especially when cold) is warm up the cylinder walls in the upper section so that during compression a warm and nice environment is created for the diesel fuel to ignite. Diesels work only on compression no spark ever involved.

the thing that makes the pistons move is the petrol bein ignited when the cylinder is air-tight which litraly throws the piston down, this is a petrol engine diesels look similar inside but they work differently. hard to explain! oil is only used around moving metal parts to stop them from seizing.
