[Watch HD version to see the colors properly, starting at 0:06] V03365 No camera tricks/special effects - these two jet trails actually appeared as two very different colors even to the naked eye - the first one was very blue-ish while the second one was clearly orange! I'm sure the weird atmospheric conditions causing the sunbow had something to so with it but I'm still at a loss to explain exactly how the trails could be such different colors, even at different altitudes/angles. Weird!
Yep - pretty much how I see it. I've got shadowed "dark trail" shots, too. Like clouds, they aren't white if the sun doesn't hit them, but they freak people out anyway! One thing for sure is that high-flying aircraft altitude is VERY hard to tell from the ground. Jets which look to be at about the same altitude may actually be 10,000 apart, but you wouldn't even know it if not for wind layers moving them in different directions, and time lapse to us help see it. It's interesting stuff! :-)

i sometimes see the vapor turn dark when the sunlight is blocked by a big cloud. The altitudes between the two planes don't look much different, but I guess the plane with the blue smoke flew a lot higher up in the sky. A part that wasn't effected by the dimmed sunlight. still it's an intriguing picture!

All I can figure is that layer of cirrus caused some sort of filtering effect, which affected the trails at different altitudes differently. It literally looked that way to the naked eye as well - no camera tricks necessary. The lighting in general that day was really weird... glad I had my camera handy! :-)

Maybe it's a Doppler effect! One plane is moving away and the other is coming towards you, but then the colors should be the other way round. Are you sure you didn't mirror this shot!
XD

Some of the weirdest color phenomenon I've seen yet! :-)

Nice!

I suppose a chemical difference between the trails could cause the colors, but my guess is that it's an effect of the lighting filtering of the sun's rays. Just the sun shining through the high cirrus clouds this day was really weird. I shot a lot footage of it. I suspect that one trail was above the clouds while the other was below. I'd have to study more about light frequencies and refraction before I could really make much sense of it. :-)

bio test filth????

It does seem fairly common on highly overcast days... but what's really unusual about this sequence is the different colors of the two jet trails that pass through the scene. It's hard to see it well unless you watch it in HD. One trail is very blue while the other is nearly orange. No camera tricks were used - it really looked that way to the naked eye. too. Thanks for checking it out! :-)
