The opening part of this masterpiece is somewhat heavenly amazing! Can hear to it 24 hours/day.
Here seems to be taken in a bit hastily manner which adds though to its sens of exhalting God and that radiant joy which emanates from the gospel of St. John the Apostle. When taken slowly (like in Karl Richter's interpretation) it makes more evident the feeling of repentence and pain. This chef-d'oeuvre is so multifaceted that it can be sung in many ways!
