Thermoluminescence of fluorite (chlorophane) crystal which come from franklin mine Usa.
some mineral substances such as fluorite store energy when exposed to ultraviolet or other ionising radiation (natural radioactivity). This energy is released in the form of light when the mineral is heated. A first heat release nearly all the light stored for ages. The phenomenon is distinct from the black body radiation, and is used as a method of datation.

  • it's just a lumix fz28 in hd mode. The light emited is enough to be visible with the naked eye, so a common camera can record it without problem.

  • What was the camera model, framerate and resolution?

    Thanks for you answer

  • Wow... seriously cool. I don't know how old this stone is but what you have to understand is that this light being emitted could potentially be radioactive build ups that have been present in that stone for hundreds of thousands of years. My god I must sound nerdy :P good vid though :)
