It may only cost you $60 (US Retail_ but the simple ART Tube MP Project Series microphone preamp delivers just about every feature you'd need from a mic pre, including an impressive sound and build quality.

Owen's been surveying the three iterations of the Tube MP line, including the Studio V3 and the original Tube MP. The Tube MP Project Series, however, is his fave of the bunch, offering just the right combination of practical functionality — impedance switching, usable soft-limiter, locking input XLR jack, etc. — and price. Plus you can stack 'em like Legos.

  • Where do you find these prices?? Also any idea why the project has been discontinued? It is now more difficult and expensive to find than the studio v3.

  • comapring it with pre tube pre sonus is it better?

  • Fuck the DI bass is smooth

  • @GearWire

I'm just curious. Why do you find the v3 limiter function impractical?

Could you illustrate with an example of incoming level somehow not being treated well or something relevant to that, maybe?

Have you noticed there is a very hard 'clip/smoosh' sound when using this limiter function on the project series MP?

I'm guessing the v3 is intolerable as far as mushy, clip joint sounds go when you initially attack the signal with say, an electric guitar on clean

  • cool : )

  • I connect the preamp to my pc via usb

shure sm 58 to preamp via xlr

but theres this static that i hear

    any idea why?

  • hi there, great reviews!

can i ask how these ART preamps compare with the XLR preamps on mixer channels, the reason i ask is that when i connect my sm57 to xlr preamp on my XENYX 502 mixer i have to set trim to at least 1/4 past on the dial to get any sort of decent volume level!

in your opinion with testing these ART'S out would it be more beneficial for me to invest in one of these, or do you think i'm not going to see much of a boost compared to Xenyx mixer...?

    regards....

  • I just love people on youtube who love o hear themselvs talkin' ........just test the damn thing ....we all know it has buttons and connections.....

  • hahahaha. why bother demonstrating the phase inversion?

  • Bass DI sounded great! Had some very nice low end warmth -- even through my crappy comp speakers. Impressive preamp and well done demo.
