I have a series of traditional/medieval Christmas songs lined up and I thought I'd get this one out of the way first as it does not convey the cheerful Christmas message we have become accustomed to. In fact, it tells the tale of a farmer who works on the Lord's birthday and is caught in the act by Jesus and cast immediately in to hell resulting in his farm failing, his animals dying and his wife and kids starving. MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL!!!!

I thought it was interesting to note that the snuggly-wuggly-baby-Jesus-in-the-manger Christmas we celebrate today was not always the type of Christmas that was celebrated by our ancestors.

I have tried with the slightly off harmonies (yes - it is on purpose this time) to get a middle ages feel but I don't really know how to pull it off musically.

More conventional (if ancient) Christmas stuff to come so don't worry!

  • Wow! Thank goodness all I did on Christmas Day was sit around watching TV. Jesus doesn't object to that kind of thing, does he? (It was mostly Discovery Channel and The Food Network.)

  • Ha! Nothing about evolution on Discovery I hope!

    Thanks very much M-A

  • It's the first time Christmas makes me cry.
