First off, let me apologize for the high pitched feedback that is coming through in parts...didn't really notice it while playing, I think because of the hat. Anyway, I don't find it too distracting and it was a good take, so up it goes and I can move on :). Probably going to work on "The Grudge" next.

Something occurred to me while I was working on this song. I've heard before in one article or another, that Adam wasn't happy with his sound in a few songs on the Undertow album...and that was one of the reasons they used a new producer for Aenima. Well, if you listen to how Adam plays this song live, it "sounds" quite a bit different. Perhaps this is one instance where the way he plays it didn't come across on the album, and so he wasn't happy with it? I've tried to incorporate some of those sounds into this cover...particularly the "strumming near the neck" sections starting around 1:10.

You may also find the variation of the riff at 4:15 interesting...you'll recognize it as the same technique Adam used on Jambi. It's my opinion that he's used this technique here and there on many songs going back as far as Undertow. Not sure about Opiate, as I've not learned any of those songs...yet. It was only with Jambi, when Adam made a whole song around this riff, that it got more attention. Again, all of this is just my opinion based on my experience, my eyes, and my ears...your mileage may vary :).

At the end of the song, 4:55, I've included an alternate version of a couple of the riffs. The difference is mainly in the strumming. I swear in all the videos I've watched/listened to, I could hear Adam playing it this way here and there. Didn't want to do it this way for the cover as he doesn't, if he does at all, play it this way often. I just thought it was interesting, so I included it.

Not that anyone gives a rats a** what I've been up too personally, but over the last couple of months since my last video...I've been exercising regularly! I Quit smoking in October and now I'm jogging several times a week. So, I should progressively get thinner...we'll see.

Take care, and I look forward to "talking" to you in the comments section...

  • NICE

  • @dippieh Thank you :D.

  • why did you add semore duncan pickups to the guitar ?

  • @TheMinerva14 Just the bridge pickup is changed. I'd read here and there that Adam uses the SD JB SH-4, so figured I'd give it a shot. As long as I'm playing Tool songs, figured I could use all the help I could get in the tone department :).

  • @TheMrjohhnyonthespot Hey bud, thanks! I'm thinking that Adam used that "Jambi technique" in a lot of songs, even if it's just "once"...it's just hard to hear. Anyway, no. Unfortunately I've missed them this time around. They were within 3 hours of me, but I didn't go...didn't want to brave the "mountain pass" in the winter. How 'bout you?
