Lang lang takes this really well, you really need to put away your ego, which must be tremendously difficult for the world's most recognized//loved/disliked pianist.

@ivelosthewilltolive I hear you. If conductors don't hear the meaning of the score, the changes taking place in the music, moving always to speak with absolute intimacy and the greatest power, how do they have the nerve to present anything at all to the public? Because not even the orchestra players themselves know what's missing, here the lack of meaning when it isn't there. LangLang doesn't hear what B hears. But if you hear it, you will give it, even if you lack some technique.

I have to give LL credit, it's very brave at this point in his career to admit that he has something to learn from a great pianist like Barenboim, and to do it on camera.
But -- all the details that Barenboim is adding to LL's performance here are precisely the things that make a very familiar piece like the Appassionata worth listening to one more time. If you can't already play with that level of subtlety and refinement, how do you have the nerve to perform in public?

I know from a pianist that studied with Arcadi Volodos that Volodos can play all the Beethoven sonatas by ear!!! He remebered them just by listening and he can play all of them without ever having seen the score. Now that's impressive! It also took him only 2 days to learn and master the rachmaninov third pianoconcerto...not bad for a guy that started seriously when he was about 15 years old. And he's humble that's something noble. He doesn't show off. Iam not sure Lang Lang has that quality...

Mr. L. Lang appears ill-suited to the greatest composer. Mr. B is not.
