CINCINNATI (WKRC) - For the seventh straight weekend, residents of Winton Terrace gathered Saturday to protest violence plaguing their neighborhood.A large group marched through the neighborhood chanting Stop the shooting, Stop the Violence. This was prompted by an uptick in crime in the area. This past year, there have been 5 murders and more than dozen shootings.Nikki Steele, who is on the neighborhood's resident board, says it's due to less police patrols. In 2012, we had two officers that CMHA was paying for. At that time, we had 1 murder and 11 shootings. This year, we do not have those details and we have 5 murders and 18 shootings, Steele said.House of Hope Pastor, Nick Burnett, helped lead prayers at Saturday's march. He says the community can't seem to avoid tragedy.A lot of lives have been taken in this community, a lot of people have been hurt in this community, he said. However, he's optimistic because he says more people are turning out for each week's protest. The group said they plan to believe and fight for their neighbors until real change happens in Winton Terrace.
