lovely song

@DJnaturalselecta Not sure how much of that history was really in this song. Mostly I feel it is about married love and old man loving Margeret. But just so everyone else knows: the Germans called the Dutch Royal family on the telephone and threatened to bomb Rotterdam to hell unless they surrendered. They surrendered and the Germans bombed Rotterdam anyway. There was no time for evacuation.

@DJnaturalselecta great words, thanks!

@Karlnonac Thanks; me too. Liam and Phil were the kind of musicians that Dylan pretends to be. It is no compliment to read some comment that attention-whore made about them.

This is a song that goes from beauty to tragedy in one line and the lines,"the dutch man still wares wooden shoes, sometimes he thinks hes still in rotterdam" are trully that when u think the old man is a shellshock victim of the bombing of rotterdam by the nazi,s always evokes an image of being in holland on a chill autumn day ,amazing stuff ,rip tommy and liam never forgoten

This is such a hauntingly beautiful love song about love that truly lasts forever.
I'm sorry to be a downer, but every YouTube video of Liam contains a comment about the Bob Dylan quote. I for one don't think that any justification is needed, from Bob Dylan or anyone else, to tell us that Liam was a wonderful man, a wonderful musician, and a wonderful storyteller.
Rest in Peace, Liam, you are missed always.

Wow what a wonderful performance of a classic song.
Bob Dylan said once that Liam Clancy was the finest folk singer he had heard.
RIP
