The Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted on 12/9/10 to revise local legislation regarding the approval of Board of Election appointees. Prior to the vote the County Commission appointed one person, then the two parties garnering the most votes each selected one appointee. The County Commission voted to give themselves the final approval for all appointees.

Commission Eric Maxwell voiced opposition and voted against the change. He had a concern regarding a five-member all-Republican Board of Commissioners having final say over Democratic appointees. He also noted that the issue had not been discussed in a Commission workshop, something he indicated was a policy of the Board.

Despite Maxwell's objections the Board approved the measure with a 3 - 1 vote. Commissioners Herb Frady, Jack Smith and Robert Horgan voted for the resolution. Lee Hearn was absent due to illness.
