Sampras was a great server, but I am sure you serve probably better than your opponent can return.
Agassi return/ Sampras serve were closer than your opponent return/ your serve.
And Federer uses serve and volley as a play variation and he does it off any shot. Some placement advantages certain things.. variation is important. But serve-volley works better wide as you said, although it is logical to aim down the center line.

Sampras (Pete used to) and Federer serve and volley balls on the middle line... and, they also do this, on this line, on second serves.
Middle means they have to angle the shot very well. No great impossible shot needed though, but the ball is fairly neutral and no angle is open. It does advantage a powerful server, plus it's a variation.
If Sampras managed to do it against Agassi, I don't see why it doesn't makes sense against these amateurs.

Honestly, I think that the volley is in, but I'm not so sure...

actually somebody who can serve more than 20mph down the T with enough spin will through the returner off balance causing them to hit a floater in the air for the put away volley..btw serve is terrible

i asked that because the serve was hit slowly, with minimal spin, right up the center of the box. again, a better player could have passed you.
