This Old Navy commercial is a response to The American Family Association's boycott of Gap, Inc. for not having the word "Christmas" in their commercials or advertisements.
The theme of the commercial is "holiday", and it seems they just tacked on "Merry Christmas" at the last second. It was probably originally "happy holidays".

The sad part of this is that by adding the "Merry Christmas" to the commercial, it makes less sense then you would think the original commercial. Random dummies shouting out "Merry Christmas" does not redeem negligence.

well, their ads have been all about the dummies as of late. But the grey-hoodied dum' made a fool of himself... and the comment, "hoodie's on, but nobody's home," said, underhandedly, that the AFA is spinning around, looking only at the back of their own hood. just a thought.
