The Izod impact test is a destructive test that measures impact strength (resistance to cracking) by determining the resistance of a profile sample to the impact of a suddenly applied force. A notch is cut into a quarter inch bar and the force required to break the bar is measured. A minimum level must be met for a successful test.
This test helps insure the profile can withstand tearing forces it may encounter during fabrication, shipping and/or installation. For example, will the profile crack if the window is dropped during fabrication or installation?
