  • nett, auf der suche nach jemanden der mich von meiner andauernden einsamkeit erlösen kann

  • Much slower than I'm used to hearing it, but she was a Mozart expert, wasn't she. Why does the description say this is from Cosi fan tutte, though, when it is from Der Schauspieldirektor? Seriously, they're not even in the same language! :-o

  • My favorite version of this.....she really sells it! What sass :)

  • my last name is steber!!! possibly a relative???

  • Super!

  • @Greg07623 Thanks for the info.I didn't know that.Isn't it interesting: how many Kaiserin's have we heard/suffered through in the past years, with less voice and nowhere near the artistry or identification with the music of R. Strauss, yet who are/were always totally convinced of themselves. What refreshing humility and artistic integrity on Steber's part to admit that perhaps the Kaiserin was a bit heavy for her. I do, however, know for a fact that she adored that role. Anyhow, what a gal!!

  • @assindiastignani Steber actually did perform Der Kaiserin in Vienna under Karl Bohm as I recall. By all accounts she was fine in it, but I recall her commenting after hearing Eva Marton sing it at the Met that she didn't know how she'd made it through it. It was obviously not something she cherished having sung.

  • @monpitt500 No argument here. I adored the woman, and I think her Elsa was wonderful. It's a shame the great "Frau ohne Schatten" rage that came in the 60's didn't happen one decade earlier - what a Kaiserin that would have been!!

  • @assindiastignani I agree but her Elsa was great and the voice sounded enoug for elsa

  • @LucyS3121 I'm also ashamed by this wrong description...

It is really slow, but I don't know any soprano besides Steber, that could sing this song so much slowed down. It's a very lovely and heart-moving rendition.
